Scoring
How Etsy Opportunity Score Works (Explainable AI)
Understand LaunchForge IQ’s Opportunity Score: demand, competition, price band, and momentum—plus why AI never invents the market score.
Why explainability beats black-box ranks
Sellers lose trust when a tool says “rank #1” with no math. Explainable scores show why a niche looks attractive—and where it is weak—so you can decide consciously.
The four sub-scores
Each niche run produces sub-scores you can inspect:
- Demand — interest proxies such as favorites and related demand signals
- Competition — density of active listings for the keyword set
- Price band — whether typical prices support a healthy offer
- Momentum — trend or seasonality direction when available
AI’s role: synthesis, not score rewriting
After scoring, AI can propose difficulty, product angles, and a short rationale. If AI is unavailable, you still get score-only opportunities. That failure mode protects research continuity without hallucinated metrics.
Frequently asked questions
Can AI invent a higher Opportunity Score?
No. LaunchForge IQ computes marketScore deterministically. The LLM supplies difficulty, suggested products, and rationale only.
What weights does the score use?
Default weights emphasize demand (35%), competition (30%), price band (15%), and momentum (20%). Always read the breakdown bars, not only the headline number.
Is a score of 80 a guaranteed win?
No. Scores compare candidates under the same method. Execution, design quality, fulfillment, and ads still decide outcomes.
